It seems the press remains negligent in covering the news that reflects the will of the people. Not only did they feed us all the misinformation leading to this war without question, they continue to ignore the growing movement of citizens for government accountability. While our elected representatives continue to worry more about their political careers than doing the right thing and protecting the constitution, I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of our Declaration of Independence, the often forgotten second paragraph after the profound statement regarding life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness….”that to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it.”
Our founding fathers knew the threat of the power of a King, and therefore, established three separate and equal branches of government, not merely two more arms of the Executive branch, as we see today. They also knew the necessity and power of a FREE PRESS in order to hold our government accountable. It seems to me that today, this system of government is severely broken, in more ways than one.
It is easy to get discouraged when we see what is being done in our names; war, torture, suspension of these divine rights, the dismissal of the rule of law in the name of safety, and the Executive branch becoming more powerful every day. Do we understand what kind of precedent we’re setting here? Do you think there were many Germans like us who chose to believe their leaders were honorable men and did not believe what they were doing for the sake of their country?
I will not be a good German, I will remain optimistic, and I will remain motivated, and I believe there is a growing number of people out there who share my concerns who will come together to save this government, our constitution and the rule of law in this country. I will not give up, I remain ever vigilant; make no mistake that a small group of people can change the world, it’s the only thing that ever has…
