Would anyone be interested in organizing a Tulsa-area screening of "An unreasonable man," the bio-pic on the political rock star Ralph Nader, who ran for president in 2004?  Nader won 100,000 votes in Florida and 22,000 votes in New Hampshire, at that time.  The film was recently broadcast on PBS (18 Dec 2007).

This election cycle, it sounds like he'd love to endorse Kucinich, if Kucinich could win some primaries, but it also is the case that Edwards is also among the most progressive of front-runners in decades, and therefore, it's conceivable that Nader will endorse Edwards, should he prove capable of winning the primaries.

Here's the shockwave-flash video trailer, for streaming video online:

Or go to the link:

We could hopefully organize in conjunction with T-Town DFA (where Kucinich won the straw poll), as well as with the Kucinich Meet Up group in Tulsa, and other progressive outfits, such as the Tulsan committee for "Just Progress", and the Tulsan discussion group for The Nation.

Ralph Nader and the Nader/Gonzalez Team were in front of the White House this morning calling for the resignation of Bush and Cheney.

C-Span broadcast Ralph's 47-minute indictment of Bush and Cheney on "C-Span One" about 6:40pm EST, today, 23rd May 2008, with simulcast via streaming video online.  Shortly you'll be able to find the archived video on C-Span's website.  I watched it here: http://cspan.org/watch/cs_cspan_rm.asp?Cat=TV&Code=CS

Nader went through 5 impeachable offenses for Bush-Cheney, all of which Conyers and the House Judiciary Cttee have failed to prosecute:
1. illegal, unnecessary invasion of Iraq, undeclared war pursued under false  pretenses
2. torture policies approved in the White House by both Prez & VicePrez, contrary to U.S. Army Field manual, contrary to U.S. law, contrary to U.S. treaty law, etc.
3. spying on American citizens, a federal felony that carries a 5 year jail term; breaking U.S. law on Foreign Intelligence Surveillance
4. imprisoning American citizens illegally, denying them habeas corpus, denying them legal counsel, denying them the protection of the U.S. constitution; compromising the safety of American citizens under some dubious idea of "national security" (reason of state is always the excuse of tyrants)
5. presidential signing statements, 800 of them, more than all U.S. presidents combined throughout American history, Bush setting himself up as tyrant, or a King George IVth, the very thing the Founding Fathers such as Madison and Jefferson intended to prevent, by means of the impeachment provisions of the U.S. Constitution, when this country pried itself out from underneath the madness of King George III.

Nader put Bush-Cheney on notice that they are "fugitives from justice" the moment they step out of the White House, that the next administration is likely to prosecute them for war crimes, and Nader expects them to be indicted for breaking U.S. laws, including laws that carry felony statutory sentences.

Watching and listening to this man, with 40 years of advocacy for American citizens under his belt, and considering the wide panoply of treasonable offenses, or "high crimes" against the U.S. Constitution, committed by Bush-Cheney, my estimation of this do-nothing Congress controlled by lacklustre Democrats just sank even lower.   Nader did have some praise for the likes of the Hon. Kucinich and Sen. Feingold, and he could have said a kind word for the Hon. Wexler, in the House Judiciary.

On the whole, Nader is quite right about the need for a third party in this country, with viable candidates for office and a party machinery in all 50 states.  Will ImpeachOK1 be the outfit to ramp up a third party in Oklahoma?

 Dear Nader/Gonzalez Supporter,

We need your help to promote the Nader/Gonzalez Campaign's "Open the Debates" Tour! Since 1988, the Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD) has sponsored every presidential debate.  Since its inception, the CPD has always been headed by two former chairs of the Democratic and Republican parties.  In 1987, the League of Women Voters refused to sponsor any more presidential debates, "because the demands of the two campaign organizations would perpetrate a fraud on the American voter."

The Nader/Gonzalez Campaign is on a mission to open these debates for third party candidates, and bring back democracy to American Voters!

If you cannot make it to these rallies, please help us spread the word by forwarding these events:

Ralph Nader Campaigns in Tulsa with News Conference, Rally

Press Advisory
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

RALPH NADER CAMPAIGNS IN TULSA WITH NEWS CONFERENCE, RALLY

On Thursday, September 18 at 12:45 p.m., Independent Presidential Candidate Ralph Nader will hold a news conference in room 156 of North Hall at Oklahoma State University. Following the news conference, he will be holding a rally in the auditorium, also in North Hall, 700 N Greenwood Ave, Oklahoma State University, Tulsa, OK 74106.

The theme of the rally, "Open the Debates," reflects the Nader/Gonzalez Campaign's call for inclusive, democratic Presidential debates. Right now, they are limited to the candidates from the two corporate parties. The debates are controlled by the so-called Commission on Presidential Debates (CPD), a private corporation created by the Democratic and Republican Parties in 1987, which Walter Cronkite called an "unconscionable fraud" because the CPD format "defies meaningful discourse."

Mr. Nader's remarks will include the onerous ballot access restrictions in Oklahoma for independent and third party candidates. The state has one of the harshest ballot access laws in the nation, requiring 43,913 valid signatures to qualify for the November ballot. A greater injustice is that write-in votes are not permitted, effectively limiting the voting choices of the population of an entire state.

Oklahoma has the fifth highest uninsured rate in the nation. While Obama and McCain offer health care plans that would enrich private insurance companies at the expense of tax payers, the Nader/Gonzalez Campaign advocates a public health insurance system with private delivery and free choice of hospital and doctor.

Mr. Nader will also address these and many other critical issues the major party candidates have taken "off the table" that the Nader/Gonzalez Campaign has put on the table, including:

- a comprehensive, negotiated military and corporate withdrawal date from Iraq;
- a single-payer, private delivery, free-choice public health insurance system for all;
- a living wage and repeal of the anti-union Taft-Hartley Act;
- a no-nuke, solar-based energy policy supported by renewable, sustainable, energy-efficient sources;
- a carbon tax to deter global warming;
- an end to the corporate welfare and corporate crime that has resulted in millions losing pensions, savings and jobs and squandered tax dollars; and,
- more direct democracy reflecting the preamble to our constitution which starts with "we the people," and not "we the corporations."

WHO: Independent Presidential Candidate Ralph Nader

WHAT: Press Conference and Rally

WHEN: Thursday, September 18, 12:45 pm News Conference; 1 p.m. Rally

About Ralph Nader
Attorney, author, and consumer advocate Ralph Nader has been named by Time Magazine one of the "100 Most Influential Americans in the 20th Century." For more than four decades he has exposed problems and organized millions of citizens into more than 100 public interest groups advocating solutions. He led the movement to establish the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the Consumer Product Safety Commission, and was instrumental in enacting the Safe Drinking Water Act, the Motor Vehicle Safety Act, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and countless other pieces of important consumer legislation. Because of Ralph Nader we drive safer cars, eat healthier food, breathe better air, drink cleaner water, and work in safer environments. Nader graduated from Princeton University and received an LL.B from Harvard Law School.

About the Nader/Gonzalez Campaign
According to a CNN-Opinion Research Corp. poll conducted from July 27-29, Ralph Nader is at 6 percent nationally (equivalent to about 10 million eligible voters), higher than his highest major poll numbers during the same time period in 2000 and approaching the 10 percent threshold required for eligibility to participate in "America's Presidential Debate in New Orleans," a Google-sponsored event scheduled for September 18. In the key swing state of Michigan -- whose Democratic voters were partially disenfranchised by the Democratic National Committee -- an EPIC-MRA poll found Nader at 8-10 percent.
